Alaskan Adventure
Welcome to Alaska – America’s Last Frontier
Get ready to explore Alaska, a land of breathtaking beauty, rugged wilderness, and rich history. Covering an area equal to one-fifth of the contiguous United States, Alaska is vast and diverse, with five distinct regions: the Inside Passage, South central, Interior, Far North, and Southwest.
Among its many natural wonders, Alaska is home to Mt. Denali—called “The Great One” by the Natives. Standing at 20,320 feet, it is the highest peak in North America. No other place offers such a dramatic display of active glaciers and abundant wildlife.
Day 1 - Juneau
Arrive in Juneau on your own today. Attractions in Alaska’s capital city, Juneau, include the State Museum, the Mt Roberts Tram and Mendenhall Glacier. You may want to add an optional tour such as river rafting or helicopter flightseeing.
Day 2 - Morning in Juneau then Glacier Bay
This morning and early afternoon are yours to explore Juneau. Maybe you will take a helicopter tour to the Mendenhall Glacier or go whale watching. Late this afternoon fly to Glacier Bay. Upon arrival you are transferred to Glacier Bay Lodge for a relaxing evening.
Day 3 - Glacier Bay / Anchorage
Spend the day on the waters of Glacier Bay National Park. See magnificent tidewater glaciers, ancient snow-capped mountains, whales, Stellar seas lions, rare birds, coastal bears, seals, eagles and so much more as you travel on a comfortable, heated, high-speed catamaran. Your journey takes you to the face of the Marerie and Grand Pacific Glaciers; two of the many tidewater glaciers found in Glacier Bay National Park (Lunch Included)
Afternoon flight to Anchorage
Day 4 - Anchorage
Matanuska Glacier Walk Tour: Hotel Pick Up: 8:30 am; Hotel Return: ~ 6:00 pm
The Matanuska Glacier is a frozen 27 mile long river of ancient ice. Thousands of years old, this massive glacier is tucked up into the head of the Matanuska Valley. You will spend over 2 hours directly on the glacier with a glacier guide by your side, learning how the Matanuska Glacier was born and how it shaped the landscape in the Matanuska Susitna Valley. Explore blue meltwater pools, ice formations and deep crevasses.
Walking on ice is slippery fun, so you are equipped with a helmet, a walking stick and crampons that attach to your shoes. You are required to bring sturdy footwear (hiking shoe, waterproof shoe, boot) and suggest that you bring an extra pair of socks. Don’t be surprised that your shoes get filthy dirty with glacial flour. This glacial till is finely ground rock the glacier has created – it makes for great facials! This tour does require walking outside for about two hours with a glacier guide. The fully-guided transportation includes a pick-up at your hotel in Anchorage as well as complimentary water and snacks in the touring vehicle.
There is a stop for lunch where you will overlook the glacier while enjoying some delicious Alaskan fare.
Day 5 - Anchorage
